"My tennis team and I spent a week at the Omni Amelia Island to have a fun team getaway and also to play a lot of tennis and improve our tennis game. Unfortunately, the rain hindered some of our plans, but the staff at the Cliff Drysdale Academy worked diligently to make sure we made up court time. They were on top of it. We took several group clinics with Elliot Muth and Thiem Nguyen and had the best time. These pros were awesome. They had high energy, came up with great drills, and gave superb instruction. We are all 4.0 players and definitely learned some great tips. Both Elliot and Thiem have a way of explaining things simply and effectively. They are professional and energetic and focused on a certain skill during every clinic (groundstrokes, volleys, overheads and serves, strategy). We loved playing with them and are ready to hire them away to teach us all the time!! Would highly highly recommend!! The resort at the Omni is fine. The rooms could use some updating. The practitioners at the spa, however, are amazing. All 8 of us had massages and all 8 of us claimed it was the best massages we have ever had! I even hugged my practitioner after it was over because it was so magical!! "Ultimately, the quality of a tennis resort/academy is most dependent upon that of its teaching professionals--and those at Cliff Drysdale Tennis Amelia Island are literally all exceptional. We visited the resort and tennis facility as a family of three, one of whom is six years old. The six year old took private lessons daily with Xavier and Bryan, both of whom were fantastic as youth tennis coaches and also fantastic with our son. (Thank you Xavier and Bryan for that especially!) We--the two adults--worked with Rob, Kyle, Elliot, Sam, Xavier and Thien. Thanks to the Omni Resort's Camp Amelia for children, which occupied our son in the most engaging ways during the morning hours, we were able to participate in all of the morning tennis clinics as well as take one to two hours of private lessons per day. The tennis facility was able to schedule all of this seamlessly. We worked with all of the above named pro's in both the clinic settings as well as in our private lessons. The level of instruction was superb, the congeniality of all of the pros made spending time with them a delight and most importantly, our tennis games improved notably across the board over a one-week period. The value for money spent was excellent and the other participants in the clinics were lovely people. It's funny that only at the end of this review will I mention how beautiful the tennis facility and the resort are--but just wait until you see them! Also, important to mention is that the Jacksonville airport was an absolute pleasure both inbound and outbound. The resort is 40 minute, incredibly scenic drive from the efficient local airport. The atmosphere was convivial, the music added a nice touch to the vibe at the clinics and the level of instruction was great. The operators managed to pair my group perfectly with our pros (Xavier and specifically our lead pro, Elliot Muth). Elliot was professional, entertaining and articulate while giving us tips but managed to keep the energy level (and fun factor) high. Both pros also had extensive local knowledge and offered us advice on everything from delicious dining options to live music and local tourist attractions. The spa amenities were also a wonderful component of our trip. "The Omni Amelia Island has many attributes that make its tennis program stand out above others - but two highlights from my recent trips are passion and facilities. Passion- both a love of the game and probably more importantly for this type of facility, a love of sharing the game with others through high-level instruction. The tennis staff is exceptional - shout out to Rob, Kyle, Xavier, Elliot, Sam, Thien, Bryan, and others who help out during busier seasons or boot camps. They are great at what they do and you can tell they really enjoy helping others improve their game. It's FUN - and it should be. The clinics are organized with a theme each day and somehow it feels very social without wasting a single minute. Rob makes booking a tennis vacation very easy - we've completed tennis intensive vacations, clinic focused boot camps, and relaxing play-a-little-here-and-there type trips - just tell Rob what you are looking for and he'll help design something for your preference and playing level. The facility is impeccably maintained - more than 20 clay courts in perfect condition each morning with towering oak trees providing a shade canopy - it's on another level. The pickleball facility is also impressive. "My wife and I attended the Doubles Boot Camp in February of 2023. In short, the experience was perfection. Just book it. If you are still reading, here are some reasons I say that: 1) Instruction - the instruction focused on all key areas of the game with a combination of strategy focus, on court practice and immediate individual feedback. Virtually impossible to not leave a better player from wherever you are starting. 2) Pros - The above doesn't happen without the pros. Our pros were Kyle, Bryan, Rob, Amy and Elliott along with guest pros. Every single one of them have the heart of a teacher, including a passion for sharing their love of tennis with others. Their ability to provide individualized feedback in a group setting is truly impressive. 3) Courts - Clay courts that were in excellent condition. 4) Facility - We stayed in the hotel (vs. Villas) and had a great room with a beautiful ocean view. The restaurants and other facilities were top notch and ideal for our weekend getaway. I recommend adding a day on the front and/or back end of a camp to enjoy the area a bit more. 5) Overall environment - the whole package together was woven together so well that it made for a terrific overall experience. I had high expectations for the camp and they were far exceeded. I've already requested dates for next year and plan to be back. "I booked Amelia Island based on this web site. I thought it would be a terrific tennis resort. This was the home of the former WTA event and seemed as if it would be first class all the way. The pro shop head Bonnie was terrific and very nice and one of the tennis pros Hassan was exceptional. Good player and instructor. I am a 5.0 player and my son is a high performance junior player so we take our tennis seriously.. I went in early on a Sunday at 8am to hit with my son and took out some balls from the pro shop. Bonnie wasn't there but the guy at the front knew this and was waiting for Hassan to come at 9am. As I came in to get some water - I was accosted by one of the pros who berated me for taking the balls to the court and felt as if he wanted to start a fight. I told him I was hitting and drilling with my son at 8am before anyone was playing and didn't realize it was a big deal. He went on to say he didn't like that I was on the court during my 7 year old's lesson and he felt it was a semi private. Although, I was paying over 700 dollars a night to stay there and it was because of the tennis I was staying there it was the most unprofessional and rudest talk I have ever encountered. He went on to refer to me as DUDE, I told him I was a guest of the hotel and please don't call me dude. I asked for his name and he refused to give it to me and kept speaking to me in a very hostile voice. I found out later his name was KYLE EDWARDS. This guy should not be a pro there as his customer service and hospitality was the worst I have ever encountered. I am surprised this is the quality of a Cliff Drysdale resort. I refused to come back to the tennis facility the rest of my trip after spending hundreds of dollars in the pro shop and hundreds with hitting with Hassan. Now, I will never go back to the Omni for tennis and will have to go to real tennis resorts where they don't nickel and dime the guests , act rude and obnoxious behavior. Although, it was not a 5 star tennis resort, I was enjoying my time there and Hassan was a great pro and they are lucky to have him. I am very sorry that this situation happened and will never step foot in the Omni Amelia Island again if Kyle is still one of the pros."—B.S., May 2022

"I have been to many of the resorts listed on tennisresortsonline. I rely on the reviews to assess the game matching available. Reviews of the Omni indicated satisfaction with this aspect of the tennis program. Unfortunately, this was not my experience. In fact, when I inquired about this at the pro shop, I was brusquely informed that this is no longer offered. The desk person absolutely refused to write down my number. I am not usually a fan of clinics but resorted to this and it was offered in a package with a 1 hour tennis lesson. The clinic pros were friendly and enthusiastic. There were more than 4 players on some of the courts so occasionally I had to sit out. I had my lesson with a pro who hit with me but didn't offer a lot of constructive advice. Our room was tired and out of date and quite expensive. The gym is very good. Unlike the employee at the tennis desk, there was a very friendly staff member who gave a detailed tour of the gym and offered advice as to Amelia Island sites and restaurants. "Brought a high school tennis team down to Amelia for a three day "spring training" trip. The team trained 3 hours a day with Kyle and Luanna. I can not even begin to express how AMAZING these pros were with my team. There were 20 boys on this trip divided into two sessions and Kyle and Luanna know all their names within the first half hour. Very impressive. But most impressive was the tennis drilling they provided the team while keeping things light and fun the entire time. The range of players were 9.5 UTR right through guys who will barely crack a JV lineup, yet the pros were really able to personalize the instruction and make it work to perfection. "My tennis group of 12 women(tennis chicks)just completed 3 days of tennis camp with an outstanding experience. It started w/ the ease of booking and communication about costs and payment. When we arrived on the 1st day, Sal, Rob, and Don were ready and eager to start and get to know each of us by name and number....tennis chicks 1-12!!! We were all excited and came with an assortment of skills and personalities. The drills and instruction were spectacular. Each drill had a specific purpose. The coaches kept us moving and engaged. "Usually I attend a tennis "Camp" with 5-6 hours a day of tennis instruction, followed by a set or two of play afterwards. However, this time my (non-tennis playing) wife wanted to come, and even bring the dogs. So, I wanted to tone it down a bit and looked for a "Resort". The Omni at Amelia Island was just the thing. I new the directer, Sal, from his days at the John Newcombe Tennis Ranch, so I knew he would run a top notch program. It consisted of 2 hours of group drills and 1 hour of private instruction each day. The days I was there, the 2 hour group clinics focused on Doubles. There were 8-12 players spaced out over 2-3 courts. They did a good job of breaking out players by skill level, and the drills focused on movement and Doubles strategy. I was lucky enough to be on a court with a recent Division 1 gal and her boyfriend - both excellent players! During my 1 hour privates with Sal I focused on Singles strategy and he spent a fair amount of time shoring up my backhand. Although this wasn't the "quantity" of tennis I usually go for, the "QUALITY" was top notch and worked out really will for a 'family' vacation. All the pro's I worked with were great. They had excellent knowledge and a fun way of imparting it. Additional notes: The Omni does except pets, but only in a few rooms which were already booked. And, it turns out, our dogs were over the weight limit anyway. I used VRBO to find a place in Fernandina Beach a few miles away, and that worked out great. We were right across the street from a dog-friendly beach, and everyone had a great time. My tennis lasted all morning and we had the afternoon and evening to explore the shops and restaurants of Fernandina Beach. All of us had a great time on the vacation, and the Omni had no problem with us staying off-site and attending the tennis program. Just sign up ahead of time so they know what you're doing. I’m a 4.5 and the clinics weren’t super strong my week, so the pros substituted an hour private for the clinic. - Every pro I had a lesson with was helpful, this included Sal, Rob, and Luis. I’d suggest working with different people to get different perspectives. Each left me with a tangible aspect of my game that I’m improving. - I was particularly impressed by pro’s ability to diagnoses strokes and focus on just a few things to improve. - I had my 14 yr old daughter in the tennis program as well. They did a great job working out a schedule for her. Weaknesses - Not a great option if you are strong and you want a social group (like a Saddlebrook). My guess is that this is better in some weeks, esp. if it’s really full. - Schedule ends up being scattered throughout the day, esp, if you want to play a lot of hours. - Ball machine didn’t work the whole time we were there. I am a 2 hrs/day 3.5-4 tennis addict looking to improve my game and came solo with the intention of playing at least 5 hrs/day with feedback. I came for six days and in most ways the program delivered. Sal and Robert handled most of my private lessons and made plenty of helpful comments. Having Sal across several days kept things consistent. Daily hour with ball machine seemed to be a good way to consolidate the pointers. Unlike the Saddebrook and IMG programs which seem to attract more adults, I found myself alone or with just one other player during each of my weekday 2 hour 'clinic' sessions; the pro's were fun but the work was very light and I could not test myself against others of my level. "In January 2018, I came to the Omni Amelia Island Plantation Resort to learn to play tennis. I'd only started playing two years earlier, and it's tough to pick up a brand new sport in your 40s. I arrived with zero volley skills and a pretty shaky backhand. By the time I left, I was playing competitive doubles at the 4.0 level and could rally with the pros to 100 fairly consistently at a hard pace. In fact, by the end, we'd often practice with just a single ball to help me focus. I played about 6 hours of tennis per day for 3 full months, so I had ample time to get to know all the pros, clinics, teaching styles . . . basically everything about the program. There was no aspect of the tennis program that I didn't have contact with since I was spending so much intensive time there. The biggest strength of the resort is the friendliness and quality of tennis pros and the consistent high-level of instruction. We delved deep into technique -- learning not just how to hit the ball back and forth, but how to raise the entire level of play. I left Amelia Island as a completely different tennis player. But perhaps more important, I left the island with genuine friendships with the pros, some of whom I continue to stay in touch with. I can only think of one weakness. The Amelia Island tennis resort has no indoor courts. So you can't play tennis there when it rains. That said, the clay courts drain incredibly quickly. So they are usually playable within two hours of rain if the sun is out. (And the indoor courts at resorts that have them book up instantly during rainy days.) In summary, I couldn't have had a better experience at Amelia Island. All of the pros were top-notch, as were the other staff. And the guests were incredibly friendly. "Stayed at the omni, which is a conference and family geared resort and played 3 days at the tennis facility. The pros were great and generally very accommodating. The level of the clinics varied quite a bit so they pulled another pro to hit with me on the days when the second hour clinics were not up to snuff. The only complaint is that on the second day the courts near the clubhouse were being used for a weekly match so they moved us to a side court. The issue is that the side court was right next to the construction being done for the car show. There were at least 10 empty courts visible so I'm not sure why they would do that unless it just didn't occur to them. If coming again (and I was on my own this time) I might stay somewhere else and drive over for the tennis. I did have some billing issues at the Omni and it was very difficult to contact them online afterward. "I went with a friend from my tennis team to the Cliff Drysdale Ladies Retreat at Amelia Island. This was my first time and it was the BEST tennis program I've ever had the pleasure of participating in! The pros were super friendly, enthusiastic, talented and made sure everyone had a good time. "Our group of five from little rock ar took our first visit here this February. We did the four day tennis camp. This place is so AWESOME. The condo on the golf course is first class. "I am the tennis coach at a high school in Bergen County, New Jersey and we (along with the golf team) have returned to Omni Amelia Island Plantation year after year for our spring break tennis trip. Te resort is AWESOME....right on the beach and just beautiful. The kids have a blast as do all the parents and coaches who chaperone this trip. But what we re really here for is the tennis instruction and the staff is just tremendous in every way. From the moment my team arrives they establish a special rapport with my players that is unique to any tennis camp or clinics. Just all positive vibes that make our players feel real comfortable within the first few minutes. From there the staff get right to business: drilling the kids in every area with a passion that I have not seen at other resorts and camps in my 25 years of coaching. Footwork, groundstrokes, volleys, serves......FUN conditioning drills and most importantly lessons in how to construct points and stay positive mentally in all situations. The staff is first rate every year. Scott makes sure we are in good hands year after year and is more than happy to adjust instruction based upon the needs of our team each year. Sal and Katie were true professionals in every way and bring an energy to the courts that can not be beat. Even all the other pros we do not work with stand out when I walk the grounds of the facility. A facility that has NO equal in terms of amount of courts and gorgeous setting!! I have been around the country to so many top resorts over the years and this is the best of the bunch for tennis by far. We had enough fun on the Plantation with our three hours of tennis per day, the fitness center, lots and lots of walking, and some bicycling, that we never felt it necessary to go anywhere else. "I came to Amelia Island looking for a tennis vacation with my family and the pros at the Plantation surpassed my expectations in everyway. Being able to play under the beautiful trees was so peaceful. The drills in the morning with Sal, Hannah, and Travis were fun, yet educational. I felt that just in a few days, I was able to improve the consistency of my groundstrokes in my private lessons each day and go home with a better game. My children (5 and 9 years old) went to the after school tennis program, and they were able to interact and play tennis with new children. While we were visiting on Friday, there was a "Play Day," and it was a tennis carnival full of games, prizes, and pizza at the end. While the kids played in that, I was able to take a cardio tennis class offered for the adults. The accommodations at the main hotel overlook the ocean. The view made it very hard to leave. The resort offered plenty of activities for the family to do together by the pool and at the Nature Center. We enjoyed eating at Ocean side for lunch and Falcons Nest for dinner. I was even able to sneak away to the spa for a massage while the kids were playing tennis in the afternoons.
