The Loomis Racquet Academy at Swarthmore

Swarthmore, Pennsylvania

By Roger Cox, Editor

Jeremy Loomis, the head women's tennis coach at Swarthmore College, runs these summer sessions, providing as much as six hours a day of instruction and drills. He has an array of learning aids for beginner and Dartfish videoanalysis for the more advanced players. Although most of the instruction will be devoted to tennis, Loomis also includes an introduction to such other racquet sports as badminton, table tennis, and squash.

There are two types of camps: adidas Junior Camps, for players ages 7-17 and run in two, Sunday-to-Thursday sessions in July; and a High School camp, for players ages 14-18, run over three days in late June or mid August (the latter for advanced players only).

  • 5-Ball Rating "Coming all the way from Denmark, our son (age 15,5) had a wonderful experience. As one of the oldest and maybe one of the most skilled players, Jeremy Loomis and the staff made sure, that he wes sufficently challenged. The evening activities were superb - a treat for all ages. The food was great and his English improved a lot. The atmosphere is friendly, and the camp is sufficiently small to get to know almost everyone, yet large enough for the campers to be a crowd. Our sincere recommandations! Our son had two great weeks."—K.W., Adv., July 2011
  • 4-Ball Rating "Our son, who is 10 yrs old and has been with Loomis Tennis Camp for the past 2 summers. He is Junior Competitive ranked and loves the experience. The staff is wonderful and the program has a great balance between tennis and activities for all day campers. Btw, the food is great too, according to our son. He is looking forward to attend as a boarder next summer."—M.H., Adv. Int., July 2011
  • 3½-Ball Rating "┬ámy daughter attended the summer camp last summer and really enjoyed it. She really fine tunes her skills"—A.K., Int., March 2011
