"You have to go to the Resort at Longboat Key Club to experience how unique and special the setting, amenities and location are. So close to SRQ, downtown and St. Armands Circle and with access to world class tennis, golf, fitness center, spa, marina, and the gulf of Mexico on a pristine beach. The pros are great and the only reason I didn't rate the instruction the ' best ever' is that I've been lucky enough to receive pointers from Fred Stolle, Owen Davidson, Ross Case, Tracy Austin, Taylor Dent and Johan Kreik at various tennis fantasy camps over the years. The tennis gardens at the club consist of 20 beautifully manicured har Tru courts. "Each February my husband and I take a tennis trip to Sarasota, FL with friends, and it never disappoints. We stay at The Longboat Key Club and play tennis down the road at the Tennis Gardens. LOVE the Tennis Gardens--beautiful courts and atmosphere--and the folks at the club are friendly and helpful with reservations. There are several options for clinics and lessons, and they helped us choose what was best for our group. Our pros were Ken and Miraj--both so skilled. "Sadly, the Tennis Concierge role has gone at Longboat Key Club. Consequently, there is no longer any game arranging for Hotel guests. We emailed ahead of our stay, but no matches have been arranged. In the new system, Hotel guests are called subs-who may be allowed to join in an existing group if anyone cannot pay. Hotel guests are no longer welcome and appear to be no more than a stand in if club member groups are short at the last minute. A great shame and Tennis players wanting match ups need to book elsewhere."—G.D., Int., January 2023

We provide a concierge service when players are available for play. The pro shop staff did contact several members and hotel guests who were unavailable for arranged match play by the tennis shop. We are trying to find matches for you during the remainder of your stay. However, we do offer at least 3 group clinics every day as well as private lessons if a match is not found. Thanks for your understanding.

We specifically booked this holiday to visit the Tennis Gardens for the second time and enjoy again the fantastic coaching provided by Maraj Maharaj. We feel he is the best tennis coach we have ever had, anywhere in the world. He didn’t disappoint us, his coaching was BRILLIANT MAN, BRILLIANT! This included both his one to one lessons and the group clinics he ran, the latter he made great fun and really enjoyable. We would also like to thank Randy Ardenfriend for the excellent Live Ball sessions he ran. We plan to visit next year just to benefit from Maraj’s coaching again. "Really enjoyed my stay at the Resort at Longboat Key Club. Both tennis and golf facilities were exceptional. I recommend booking tennis lessons and clinics well in advance as schedules do fill up. Never had any issue with court availability during the day and lit courts are available in the evenings. If you need playing partners, definitely call the tennis concierge ahead of time to help set up games with other players at your level. Several of the pros are top notch and have the experience to pinpoint and work on specific weaknesses in your game as opposed to just hitting with you. After playing 3-4 hours a day for a 6 day period, I felt a significant improvement in my game. "My family and I keep coming back year after year. My son and I play tennis. My son being a junior in high school / varsity tennis player. I being a 60 plus year old competitive tennis player who loves the game. Our most recent visit was the 3rd week of this past March, 2019, but like I said, we have been coming to play here for so many years. The har-tru courts are always fantastic. I don’t know how they maintain them so well. Does not matter the time of day. Coming from a club in New Jersey that maintains good har-tru courts, I know what a challenge it is to maintain courts in top condition. These are among the best you will find to play on anywhere. But that is only the beginning. The office staff goes out of their way to be helpful. I arrange lessons for my son to help him prepare for his high school spring season, every year weeks before we arrive. The office staff always does a great job helping me arrange my son’s tennis schedule, following through with me as schedules change and opportunities for more interaction with different pro presents itself. Which brings me to the pros. They are all wonderful. Personable and great instructors, they will all really help your game. Each time we go to The Resort at Longboat Key, our son works out on court with 3 or 4 pros throughout the week, getting different perspectives and instruction as well as workouts for his game. They are all exceptional and so welcoming, remembering us from year to year. For me, the staff finds me clinics and games to play in, which makes my time every bit as enjoyable as my son’s. The clinics are well thought out, fun and instructive, and the games the staff sets up for me, allows me to challenge my game with that of other resort guests and club members. Like all tennis enthusiasts, the members are welcoming and always interested in meeting new people to play with. It does not hurt that staying and playing tennis at The Resort at Longboat Key, you have access to all the restaurants in downtown Sarasota (right across the bridge), St Armand’s Circle and the rest of Longboat Key. If you are looking for a great place to go to work on your tennis and play, I recommend The Resort at Longboat Key. You won’t be disappointed. "Longboat Key Club (LKC) is a tennis paradise that combines top level coaching and beautifully maintained courts in an idyllic setting. I am a former college player and the teaching staff here have lifted my game to a new level. I have taken lessons from 5 of the pros and they are all top of their craft. For example, Sammy is a tennis savant who brings decades of training the likes of Agassiz and other world class players to improve your game with creative drills and a sparkling sense of humor. Randy is the master of the modern game, helping players create the top-spin shots to stay in rallies against the best. And, Jacki, brings a diagnostic eye to point out how to improve your competitive skills through subtle changes during intense live game simulations. But, what’s most impressive about these pros is they are all eager to set you up with games with guests and the members. Amy is the new tennis concierge and, with a constant smile, she seems to be 24/7 vigilant to make sure you find plenty of partners for singles, doubles or mixed. Also unique is the fact that the members at the club (who hail from around the world) are incredibly welcoming to resort guests - eager to include them in their singles and doubles games. Turning to the facility, the 20 green clay courts are meticulously maintained and sit in a lush setting with pink flamingos and other wild birds strolling peacefully around (of course, not on the courts!). And, because this setting is so ideal, the one constructive feedback is it would be nice if the “Court 21” offered more food and drink options so that you could settle all day at the courts. This is a small critique because you are just a shuttle bus away from the main hotel resort that has a beautiful pool, direct access to a talcum powder soft, sandy beach and delicious foods served by a warm staff - including Paula and others who make the guests feel like long time members."—T.W., Adv., April 2019

"This is one of the best tennis clubs I have ever played at on the east coast. For all levels there is something for everyone to improve your game at the Longboat Resort Tennis Center. The staff are wonderful, friendly , coordinating and planning your tennis schedule whether it be private lessons or group clinics. The pro shop has top tennis apparel and racquets to buy or demo. Tennis pros are actually real tennis pros ! Some of them came from the Colony - on Longboat key, which was once the top destination for tennis training and tennis families. Last a shout out to Randy - Tennis Pro , who inspired my kids just starting out 5 years ago. For any tennis parent with a competitive junior playing USTA/ UTR matches, Randy is in a different league and could be a high level coach at any tennis academy in the country. "The 22nd Annual Vineyard Classic was held at this fabulous resort. My nine friends, and I, were able to have an outstanding experience staying at the resort while participating in our annual tennis tournament which was played at the Tennis Garden of Longboat Key Club. "My husband and I had a wonderful long w/e at the Longboat Key Tennis Resort. We had excellent lessons and game play. We are beginners and that was taken into consideration. "My wife and I had a wonderful long weekend at staying at Longboat Key Club and playing at The Tennis Gardens. My wife thoroughly enjoyed the teaching and coaching and learned a lot during both drills and private lessons (Thanks Ken). They had trouble arranging a 4.5 level game in early October however one of the teaching pros stepped in and played, making an enjoyable game - Thanks Ken. The tennis facility is spectacular with all courts isolated to the point where errant balls will never stop play, the courts are surrounded by ponds and wonderful nature scape. There were a handful of pros all actively engaged in teaching, training and ensuring the members & hotel guests were having a great time and everyone had a terrific energy about them. The rooms at the Key Club leave a lot to be desired and are certainly not the caliber of a world class resort. Turndown service consisted of them leaving 2 chocolates on our bed and not actually turning down the bed. Our suite had a dated kitchen, tiny bathroom and underwhelming fixtures and furnishings throughout. The views were spectacular but the hotel common areas and rooms need updating. The hotel is a 3 mile drive from the tennis facility so be prepared to either drive or have the hotel shuttle you back and forth to the tennis center. The shuttle guys were all great, friendly and prompt. We even had one offer to take us out to see where the pelicans sleep in the bush at sunset, certainly the bell staff who man the shuttles know how to service their clients. Every person we encountered went out of their way to make this a great trip, The Tennis Gardens are top notch and for the room price you shouldn't expect Ritz Carlton level accommodations. "I traveled to Longboat Key Resort with tennis and relaxation on my mind and I was not disappointed. We signed up for the daily clinic and also took a private with Sammy. His knowledge of the game is unsurpassed and he explained things in a way that made sense for me. He did not try to change my game, but made a few minor adjustments that will make a big difference in my technical abilities, doubles strategy, shot selection, and mindset. The tennis gardens are beautiful. They are located about 3 miles from the resort so you will need to grab a shuttle or rent a car. He enjoys the games with the players he is matched with there and relishes the privates he takes with the top tennis pros to get some kinks out of his game. I just started playing as an older adult. The pros at Longboat are superb and have become my friends over the years. I generally take a private every day and join the 1 hour clinic, which is always useful and fun. Some resorts we've visited have 3 hour clinics, which is far too long for me. Besides, Longboat Key is adjacent to Sarasota, which features fabulous restaurants, movie theaters, live theatrical events, and more. The club has a great pool and is right on the beach, so we often take long beach walks in the afternoons. "Beautiful property right on the beach. Our room was great with a large balcony, overlooking the pool, with a chaise lounge and a round table with 4 chairs. Perfect view of the sunset each evening. My wife and I came here for tennis. I am a USTA 4.5 player and my wife is 3.5. We arrived on a Saturday afternoon and had scheduled to split a 1 hr lesson which was given by Muraj. Great guy who was fun and gave my wife good pointers which immediately improved her serve. On the second day my wife was scheduled for a clinic which she did, and Zo Smith the tennis concierge had arranged a game for me. However, she called me that morning to let me know that someone backed out, and there was no game for me. I was disappointed, so I called Zo and expressed it, although I understand that these things can happen. Despite this day being Zo's day off, within 20 minutes my cell phone was ringing, and it was Zo. She told me that she had spoken to the Director John, and invited me to come to the tennis village anytime I wanted that afternoon and John would be happy to hit with me. John is a great guy and couldn't have been nicer. He hit with me for about 45 minutes and it was great. Zo turned lemons to lemonade, wanting to make sure we had a great time. The following day Zo arranged a nice mixed doubles game for us, and she even came out to the court to see it the "matchup" she created was good. In doing so she realized that my wife was a little outmatched, and went ahead and arranged a game for the following morning for three of us, with her being the fourth. Another thing I will say is that the facility is awesome and the regular members could not have been friendlier to us "guests". The entire staff at the Resort was awesome and friendly.
