While still located in Praia da Luz in Portugal's Algarve, Jonathan Markson has shifted venues to the 146-room Vila Baí, some 200-meters on foot from the rock and sandy shores of the bay in a picturesque, old Algarvian fishing village and close to the bustling, historic sea port of Lagos. Lodging consists of tastefully furnished one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments, all with terraces. The beach, which gives Praia da Luz its name (the exact English translation of Praia da Luz is "Beach of Light"), is long with fine, pale sand. It is ideal for safe, relaxed bathing and is a five-minute walk from the club. The climate is sunny for most of the time throughout the year with the hotter temperatures of the summer mitigated by the cooling flow of a gentle breeze.
The tennis program itself consists of 15 hours of instruction/week on the resort's two hard courts. It is under the direction of Luis Machado, a top ranked player in Portugal in his youth and now one of its top seniors. The club also has three swimming pools and a pro shop. Golfers have the option of playing at several nearby courses.

"I attended the single player week on early November. It was a mix of players who had come on their own or with a small group of friends. Everybody mixes in over the week. Most arrive Sunday and leave Saturday.
Vasco who has been part of the set up for many years has moved to Lisbon but Luis still heads up the week and has a team of great coaches. We lost half and hour of play to a shower in the week but the weather in early November was ideal for tennis in the mid 20's. I was in a group of four and the groups are well matched on the larger weeks, we were 17 in total spread across 4 courts. At least half the players had been before. The seafood in Portugal is first class.
We had the usual 3 hours in the morning and the chance to play latter in the afternoon. Luis organises a tournament on the Friday afternoon. Extra solo lessons can be booked (Euro30). Luis has 30+ year of coaching experience and always adds something to your game
The hotel is adequate on and bed and breakfast basis but their is the option to stay in self catering flats.

Location/Resort - this is a fantastic location resort - the rooms are spacious (I mean spacious) and clean and modern. The pool area is fantastic. Close to the Beach and the town of uz is walking distance, Lagos is a 5 min car ride. 9/10
