Others go for the beach, the pools, the great cuisine, the golf , the casino, or the incredible water park. I go for the tennis. The courts are in excellent condition. The instruction, led by head pro Jon and staff is superb! I usually participate in the daily clinics intended for players 3.5 or better. Sometimes players show up that are not quite at that level but the staff do a great job of breaking up the group so that people of similar skill, play together. Jon provides terrific feedback and advice. They also added two lit pickleball courts since my last visit in June 2022. They looked beautiful. On my most recent visit, I struck up a conversation with someone in the gym, and we got on the topic of tennis. He was quite knowledgeable about the sport. When I mentioned that the Baha Mar had terrific tennis facilities, he was taken by surprise since he had no idea, otherwise he would have brought his gear! The property offers three great hotels to choose from, has a large well-run casino, and many exceptional restaurants. The hotels are filled with Bahamian art and Bahamar has an on-site art studio where local artists work in rotation and their works are offered for sale.. In addition to all of this, Bahamar has a gorgeous tennis facility nestled among beautiful foliage. The hard courts, clay courts and grass court are all exceptionally well maintained and the tennis pro shop area is lovely. We have played tennis at Bahamar many times during our frequent trips to Nassau. The morning drills led by Kevaughn, Justin, Devlin and John are always challenging, fun, and a terrific work out. They are all great pros. And in addition, the hotel guests who attend the drills are always interesting as well as skilled players. Many locals also join the drills especially on weekends. The tennis facility at BahaMar is exceptional and picturesque.  My instructor was Justyn and my lesson absolutely exceeded my expectations. Justyn is an exceptional instructor- he is friendly, patient, extremely professional, answers all of my silly questions without judgement and knows his stuff. Since it was a 30 minute lesson, I was expecting to learn maybe one or two things, however, I learned so much about the sport and Justyn has a way of effortlessly teaching you while keeping you engaged. You can tell that he loves the sport and enjoys teaching. Justyn took the time to focus on the foundations and explained the reasons for why hand and feet placement are important which helped me deepen my understanding of the sport. I surprised myself with how much I was able to accomplish (forehand, backhand and serve) during the short lesson, or maybe my instructor was just that great at explaining and demonstrating everything. • "The Baha Mar Racquet Club and the Baha Mar Rosewood need to be high up on the list of anyone looking for luxury accomodations and a first-rate tennis program in the Bahamas! My wife and I stayed at the Rosewood for a week in mid May and I participated in the tennis programs almost every day. There are 8 courts (5 hard, 2 har-tru and 1 grass) and very well-equipped pro shop where you can buy racquets, shoes, clothing, accessories and stringing. I met the head pro, Jon Kooy (a fellow Canadian), on my first day there and he gave a complete run down of the available programs which included daily clinics, private and demi private lessons, cardio tennis and available game matching with local club members. I particpated in the daily clinics with Jon and fellow instructors TreVaughn and Justin - all of whom did a fantastic job of creating a high energy clinic which kept us all very engaged, regardless of level. I also participated in a 60-minute private lesson with Jon and was not disappointed. Jon is an accomplished player on the ITF circuit and a very knowledgeable and engaging coach. I have participated in private lesons at other clubs with varrying results, but Jon at Baha Mar definitely helped me improve my game! There were 8 guests participating on the day we went. One tip: some of the clinic folks were from other hotels, so if you are staying somewhere else, you can still play tennis here. We split up into 2 courts based on skill level, and then we got a good work out, at least on our court! The staff was great and open to suggestions about the drills we did. We also took a private lesson for 2 and had a great experience. The facility has hard courts, clay and one grass court, and they were never full, despite the crowds at the resort. First off, PBI has become my standard of excellence when looking for tennis instruction. The Tennis Pros are the best I've encountered in the industry, exceptional professionalism, highly skilled at not only playing tennis, but more importantly teaching tennis, and they all are bright, energetic, and truly love the sport. I along with a couple of friends, participated in one of the World Camps, and we are still in awe at how amazing the whole experience was. We were warmly greeted and welcomed, introduced to all the tennis staff and many of the locals who play at Baha Mar, a world class welcome! The camp focused on all aspects of our game, from technique to strategy. Another fine quality of working with PBI trained Tennis Pros is that the instruction is consistent. How are we ever to get consistent in our own game, if our instruction isn't? While you may get different tips and suggestions, the instruction is simple, functional, and effective. Karl, the Director of Tennis at Baha Mar really ensured we had a wonderful experience. He laid out a thoughtful schedule and was open to suggestions, not that we had many! With the help of bringing in a couple of other Pros, Jeff and one of our favorites, Chad Ruthig, who we've had the privilege of working with over the last couple of years, the ratio of pros to players was ideal for really enhancing our game! As for the property itself. Breathtaking. The resort is very well manicured and the staff, very friendly and inviting. From the moment we stepped foot on property until we left, the service was impeccable. Tennis was the highlight of our trip and equally, so was dining! There are so many restaurants to choose from! From casual bites to fine dining, they were all incredible. Every single meal we had was in itself an experience! The spa & fitness facility is one of the best I've ever seen! One of my criteria when looking at places to stay is, there has to be a nice gym. The gym at Baha Mar is comparable to a high end gym, like an Equinox. I can't say enough positive things about this resort or about PBI and the Tennis Program here. I've already marked my calendar for next year's camp! • "I stayed at the Grand Hyatt at Baha Mar for 11 days in March 2018 and played tennis for nine of them! We arrived too late to play on day 1 and had one day of rain, otherwise it would have been 11/11. For reference, I normally play 2-3 times per week. I played high school and college tennis but took a couple of long breaks from the sport and just got back into it last fall. Daily drills The Baha Mar tennis pros offer a 90 minute drill every day of the week. This was my primary reason for choosing Baha Mar out of all of the Caribbean destinations. With that many days, I was worried that the drills might get repetitive, but I am pleased to report that pros Karl and Alex kept the activities and games fresh, fun, and interesting the whole time. Karl and Alex (and the rest of the tennis staff) were so positive and knowledgeable. They struck the perfect balance between game improvement and vacation. There was great, real-time feedback given and quick tips for improvement/kind corrections were very common. I was so impressed by the number of teaching styles and tools the pros brought to the court, both in the drills and the two private lessons I took with Alex. In the drills, Karl would explain a concept in multiple ways to ensure that people with different learning styles and skills all picked up the info. Both pros had an arsenal of drills to choose from to accommodate the group that came that day. I think the program management by Peter Burwash International has a lot to do with the pros’ training and techniques, but this was my first PBI experience. I was most impressed by how Karl and Alex found drills that suited the situation and benefited all participants, even with a range of abilities. I found I was generally toward the top of the group and some days (usually the days with 3-4 players) there was a good-sized gap between my skills and the next person’s. During these days, Karl kept me interested and engaged as I worked on consistency, footwork, placement, and off-pace balls while the other players focused on mechanics and form. A lesser pro would have alienated either me or those working more on fundamentals. Karl is an incredible, patient teacher and extremely friendly and approachable. Days with larger groups were the most fun for me as we split into courts based on skill level. We had several days with 8-14 players and I had a chance to hit out a bit more and develop points. Similarly to small groups, the drills were perfectly tailored to the group on the court and we had a lot of fun with friendly competition. Private lessons I took two private lessons with Alex. He set a great tone of working hard for the hour but also having fun. He didn’t go easy on me, as pros sometimes can do in a resort setting. Alex took my game and my improvement seriously and made sure I got what I wanted out of the time. He was motivating and encouraging but also funny and friendly. In one lesson, I was having trouble with my kick serve and Alex went through about eight different teaching tactics/activities help me understand the mechanics of the shot. In addition to being a really great teacher, Alex is also a very talented player and I had a lot of fun rallying with him. Even during the fast paced rallies he somehow kept an eye on my form and would give me the correction when he inevitably won the point. The trouble spots he identified very quickly were so spot on that it seemed like he’d known me for 20 years (hopefully my flaws are not that easily identifiable and he’s just good). All-in-all, I loved the private lessons with Alex. Tennis Facilities The facilities are picturesque and top notch. The courts were in pristine condition and the court margins were amazing. There was so much room that I was comfortable running down lobs and chasing an angled shot off the court. They have hard, green clay, and grass courts. I mostly used the hard courts but one of the drills was on the clay, which I hadn’t played on in 15 years—what a treat! I didn’t get a chance to play on the grass, but the court looked gorgeous. There was plenty of comfortable seating for on-lookers and shade on the courts. The air conditioned pro shop was nice too, stocked with free cold water and fresh towels. They had racket rentals and shoe rentals available, but I didn’t use this service. I broke a string during a late afternoon private and didn’t have any backups with me, but Alex grabbed me some other frames to try/use. They had mine restrung for me by 10am the next morning—so awesome! Pricing I thought the pricing was very fair (comparable to Chicago rates) and I clearly took advantage of most of the services offered. Also, you don’t have to stay at the Baha Mar to play tennis there. Overall Tennis review After playing for more years than my skills probably show, it was so refreshing to play new drills, hear concepts explained in new ways, and see new demonstration techniques. I’m beyond satisfied with the quality of instruction, friendliness, and capabilities I experienced. The facilities are world class and Karl and Alex are incredible. Grand Hyatt Unfortunately the rest of the resort wasn't as amazing as the tennis. We had trouble with loud music and spring breakers around the pool (and I'm 32!), as well as a lack of chairs. The restaurants were expensive and mediocre. I wanted a relaxing vacation and this was not it."—A.L., Adv., March 2018

• "My wife and I just returned from Baha Mar in the Bahamas last week. The rooms were extraordinary (new and modern), the beach was beautiful, and the restaurants were fantastic, but for me, the most notable highlight was the tennis facility and my tennis lessons with the Head Pro, Karl Vukobrat. They have 6 hard courts, 3 clay courts and 1 grass court, all in perfect condition. The Pro Shop had an arsenal of pro-level racquets to rent for $10. It was very easy to schedule lessons with Karl. I thought I was only going have a couple lessons, but due to the level of instruction, I ended up taking 5 lessons in 5 days. If you simply want someone to feed you balls and run you around, you can have that. But if you really want to raise your game, this is the right place! Karl is the best instructor I have ever had. He deconstructs all elements, notes all the positives and negatives, and brilliantly articulates his instructions with an encouraging tone. I asked him to be hard and honest with me and he did so. He reminded me of how important it is to return to the fundamentals when your game is a little off. He seemed to have a clever analogy for everything, which I always feel is helpful when learning. I eavesdropped on a couple of his other lessons, and he really knows how to connect with his student, whether they are an adult or child. After I returned home, he kindly sent me an email with the bullet points from our lessons to keep the instruction fresh in my head over the next several months. The tennis program at Baha Mar is one the biggest reasons why my wife and I are certain to return. If you want tennis to be a part of your vacation, Baha Mar is an ideal place to go."—M.R., Adv.
