The Guide To Taking Your Tennis Racquet On the Road

Since 1999, Tennis Resorts Online has been helping vacationers decide where to go on their next tennis holiday. I've made a career of giving such advice, initially as Tennis magazine's travel and resorts editor and since 1999 as the founder of this website. What you see here are not paid listings but the descriptions—provided without cost to resorts and camps—of those properties I feel are worthy of your attention. Over the course of several decades, I've visited more than 350 resorts on five continents and participated in some 50 different tennis camps, many more than once. It is that personal experience—supplemented now by reviews submitted by vacationers like you—that underpins this website.

Finding the Tennis Resort or Camp That's Best For You

What you'll find on these and the following pages is a suite of tools to help you make an informed choice on where to go. Start by checking out the rankings of the Top 100 Tennis Resorts and Camps, which we base solely on the reviews submitted by people like you. For more personal advice, use the "Tailored Search" form that lets you specify precisely the features you're looking for in a resort or camp. Those results link to my personal descriptions, which are supplemented by the reviews—good or bad—of others who themselves have been there. There are also maps of what can be found in six different regions of the U.S. and one for Europe. Every property we list appears in a master index, listing both alphabetically and by state, region, or country. There is also a section devoted to junior camps, though since I'm a little old to participate in any of those I've had to settle for writing a description and let those juniors who've attended or their parents write personal reviews. To supplement all of this I've included a calendar of events taking place at tennis properties across the globe. We also ask resorts or camps to put together packages that offer special discounts or perks to Tennis Resorts Online readers. You can contact me at . See you on the courts. —Roger Cox, Editor

  • 4-Ball Rating Topnotch Resort, Vermont
"I told my wife I wanted to attend a tennis camp for my 60th birthday and feel extremely fortunate that she picked Topnotch Tennis. Milan, the director, developed a 6 day program just for me. I had two, hour and a half sessions every day. The thrust of the program stressed how you start each stroke and how you finish each stroke. If those two pieces are done correctly the middle of the stroke will take care of itself. Milan's philosophy is that you will create small variations that will fit your swing but the general stroke preparation and stroke finish must be there if your game is to improve. I came to the program with a more than solid backhand and a fickle at best forehand and left with the best forehand and backhand that I've ever had. Also I came it with a very strong serve and he tweaked one small thing that improved my first serve percentage from 60% to better than 80%."—T.C., Adv. Int., January 2019
  • 4½-Ball Rating New England Tennis Holidays at Sugarbush, Vermont
"Beautiful location, new friends, super instructors, fantastic lodging and food, and 5 hours of tennis! Who could ask for more! GREAT time for any age! You won't be disappointed and you'll want to go back! I do!!!"—K.H., Int., April 2018
  • 4-Ball Rating Grand Cypress Resort, Florida
"Upon entering the Grand Cypress gates, you are taken by the lush and serene setting just miles from the bustling Walt Disney World parks near Orlando, FL. The Grand Cypress Racquet Club lies a mile within the grounds seperate from the resort itself. But don't worry, there are shuttles, bikes, and walking paths available to patrons looking to jump on the courts. The tennis club grounds are mainly Har-Tru clay courts, with a stadium court with covered bleachers to accomodate a crowd of around 100 people, and also some very picturesque courts lakeside, there are 13 total Har-Tru clay with 2 seperate hard courts. The grounds are tended meticulously by the friendly staff, with an acute attention to detail. There are a number of instructional classes, round robins, and tournaments held here, giving options to a recreational player and also a seasoned veteran. There are many places to play tennis in Central Florida, but the Grand Cypress stands as one of the best!"—J.O., Adv. Int., October 2018
  • 4-Ball Rating Hanalei Bay Resort, Hawaii
"We love visiting Hanalei Bay Resort for the tennis. Head pro, Mary Hannsz is very professional, knowledgeable and personable. Her positive and even-keeled attitude is infectious and sets the perfect tone for good, fun and challenging tennis. The facility has plenty of well-maintained courts, including four conveniently flanking the central pool, and another 4 not far down the hill. Drizzle or shine, there are always opportunities to participate in drills, round robin doubles, pick-up games or self-organized play."—K.S., Adv. Int., December 2018
  • 3½-Ball Rating Cliff Drysdale Tennis at Amelia, Florida
"Upbeat, happy, accommodating young staff, clay courts amongst lush green foliage, just minutes from the Ocean. I am a 2 hrs/day 3.5-4 tennis addict looking to improve my game and came solo with the intention of playing at least 5 hrs/day with feedback. I came for six days and in most ways the program delivered. Sal and Robert handled most of my private lessons and made plenty of helpful comments. Having Sal across several days kept things consistent. Daily hour with ball machine seemed to be a good way to consolidate the pointers. Unlike the Saddebrook and IMG programs which seem to attract more adults, I found myself alone or with just one other player during each of my weekday 2 hour 'clinic' sessions; the pro's were fun but the work was very light and I could not test myself against others of my level. Fortunately, 2 local residents befriended me and provided me with extracurricular matches and camaraderie. Folks are very friendly here! I would indeed come back but with a group rather than solo."—A.M., Adv. Int., November 2018
