The Guide To Taking Your Tennis Racquet On the Road

Since 1999, Tennis Resorts Online has been helping vacationers decide where to go on their next tennis holiday. I've made a career of giving such advice, initially as Tennis magazine's travel and resorts editor and since 1999 as the founder of this website. What you see here are not paid listings but the descriptions—provided without cost to resorts and camps—of those properties I feel are worthy of your attention. Over the course of several decades, I've visited more than 350 resorts on five continents and participated in some 50 different tennis camps, many more than once. It is that personal experience—supplemented now by reviews submitted by vacationers like you—that underpins this website.

What you'll find on these and the following pages is a suite of tools to help you make an informed choice on where to go. Start by checking out the rankings of the Top 100 Tennnis Resorts and Camps, which we base solely on the reviews submitted by people like you. For more personal advice, use the "Tailored Search" form that lets you specifiy precisely the features you're looking for in a resort or camp. Those results link to my personal descriptions, which are supplemented by the reviews—good or bad—of others who themselves have been there. There are also maps of what can be found in six different regions of the U.S. and one for Europe. Every property we list appears in a master index, listing both alphabetically and by state, region, or country. There is also a section devoted to junior camps, though since I'm a little old to participate in any of those I've had to settle for writing a description and let those juniors who've attended or their parents write personal reviews. To supplement all of this I've included a calendar of events taking place at tennis properties across the globe. We also ask resorts or camps to put together packages that offer special discounts or perks to Tennis Resorts Online readers.

Still, the site needs your input. We want to hear from you about your experience with any resort or camp you know first hand. As an incentive to take the trouble, Tennis Resorts Online is giving away four tennis vacations in an annual drawing . Every review you submit gives you another opportunity to win. To file one for a resort or camp, visit "Write a Review" or "Review a Junior Camp". Finally, let me know of ways you feel the site can be improved (and since we've just gone through a major redesign, please also let me know if there are any technical issues with any of the pages). You can contact me at . See you on the courts. —Roger Cox, Editor

  • 4½-Ball Rating Baha Mar, Bahamas
"My wife and I just returned from Baha Mar in the Bahamas last week. The rooms were extraordinary (new and modern), the beach was beautiful, and the restaurants were fantastic, but for me, the most notable highlight was the tennis facility and my tennis lessons with the Head Pro, Karl Vukobrat. They have 6 hard courts, 3 clay courts and 1 grass court, all in perfect condition. The Pro Shop had an arsenal of pro-level racquets to rent for $10. It was very easy to schedule lessons with Karl. I thought I was only going have a couple lessons, but due to the level of instruction, I ended up taking 5 lessons in 5 days. If you simply want someone to feed you balls and run you around, you can have that. But if you really want to raise your game, this is the right place! Karl is the best instructor I have ever had. He deconstructs all elements, notes all the positives and negatives, and brilliantly articulates his instructions with an encouraging tone. I asked him to be hard and honest with me and he did so. He reminded me of how important it is to return to the fundamentals when your game is a little off. He seemed to have a clever analogy for everything, which I always feel is helpful when learning. I eavesdropped on a couple of his other lessons, and he really knows how to connect with his student, whether they are an adult or child. After I returned home, he kindly sent me an email with the bullet points from our lessons to keep the instruction fresh in my head over the next several months. The tennis program at Baha Mar is one the biggest reasons why my wife and I are certain to return. If you want tennis to be a part of your vacation, Baha Mar is an ideal place to go."—M.R., Adv. • 4½-Ball Rating Boar's Head Tennis Academy, Virginia
"Great instructors that make learning new tactics for tennis fun and high energy. The facility is perfect for large groups as well as small groups. Great location in Charlottesville and easy to get to. I will plan a trip to this academy every year."—N.J.,  December 2017
  • 4-Ball Rating Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita, Nayarit Mexico
"The tennis program was great! Both my husband and I took a clinic every morning. Miguel, the tennis pro, always kept things moving and fun, regardless of the various player levels. He was also very generous in the tips and feedback he provided. Although at times there were 6-8 players, he paid attention to each individual and would suggest a little adjustment in stance or swing where appropriate. We were also fortunate enough to participate in an annual doubles tournament where we got to interact with other pros, guests and residents. It was so much fun. I highly recommend the experience."—B.W., Int., March 2018
  • 4-Ball Rating Carmel Valley Ranch, California
"My wife and I came back to Carmel Valley Ranch for our third time. We love this resort & the surrounding area! They offer a host of great fitness classes, tennis & golf clinics & nature hikes. We are big into tennis so we took a lesson & clinic with Jon. He is a fantastic teacher & coach. We will be sure to return soon!"—S.W., Int., February 2018
  • 4-Ball Rating Omni Amelia Island Plantation Resort, Florida
"This was a great experience. The coaches were wonderful and the accommodations were beautiful, a great variety of restaurants. I really liked the blend of lots of good tennis and time for some relaxation. I highly recommend it!"—M.P., Int., March 2017
