"Head Pro Doug King gave an excellent lesson, and the courts were pleasant and plentiful, but the hotel itself is terribly dated, musty, and wildly overpriced. Best bet is to stay elsewhere and come for a lesson or to use the courts."—K.W., Adv. Int., April 2010

"With my wife and I being retired in the past two years, we are trying to visit two or three of Tennis Resorts Online Top 100 a year. Just finished a three day camp/clinic at Meadowood (and going to Carmel Valley Tennis Ranch in September). The pros at Meadowood are exceptionally well-versed in and prepared to impart tennis instruction, lore, anecdotes - just about anything having to do with tennis.
Doug, Bob and Russell made our three days pass all too quickly. There were eight players (3.5/4.5) which made for a great player/pro ratio. The program is called Acceleration Tennis and is somewhat different from other instructional techniques I have encountered. A highlight of the camp was the Wednesday dinner and videotape review session. Comments from the audience were ... interesting, from Doug helpful.
The courts (seven hardcourt) were used from morning to night by club members who could have been part of arranged matches with the campers if only Wimbledon replays and sore muscles had not intervened. I would not recommend the camp for beginners, but anyone intermediate and above will enjoy the three days tremendously."—G.L., Int., July 2009

"A little wary of reviewing this resort, because I know I'll be back, and I don't want to be blacklisted. But anyone considering a tennis-focused vacation needs to know the scoop.
First lesson was with the head pro. We hit for an hour and he said nothing...not a word...even though I mentioned I needed some pointers moving from clay to hard courts. I had called ahead for daily lessons and was asked whether I needed someone who "moved well". Yes, please, because I like playing lessons. Let's just say it didn't work out. My five playing days were cut to three.
The game matching was good. The courts were being resurfaced, and they're beautiful, but I was not told that five of seven would be out of commission during my stay.
It's a serene (and incredibly expensive) place with loads of tennis potential, and is the premier racquet club of the upper Napa valley, so what can you do? Hope for the best, I guess."—N.B., Adv., September 2007
