Here's what others have had to say about Makena Beach & Golf Resort.
Rate Makena Beach & Golf Resort
The Makena Beach & Golf Resort (formerly the Maui Prince Hotel) sits a little behind a ¼-mile stretch of white sand in Makena Resort, just south of Wailea. Unlike its neighbor, however, Makena is far less
developed, with only a single hotel and much more space left open and untouched. Two 18-hole Robert Trent Jones, Jr. golf courses, a North and a South, wind through the property. Their holes are variously characterized by Hawaiian rock walls, rolling fairways, undulating greens, and views of the ocean and Mt. Haleakala. And tucked into its 1,800 acres is the winsome Makena Tennis Club, a lively enclave of activity a shuttle ride from the hotel and just below the golf clubhouse.
The courts, all hard, are laid out in pairs below a raised pro shop and have wooden fence posts, black windscreens, borders of tropical trees
and flowers, and views of the water. They sit behind an oceanside berm that funnels winds upward, fluttering the fronds of the palm trees but arcing over the courts themselves. Lights allow play until as late as 9 p.m. Frank Salvador, who had previously run the tennis programs as the Hyatt Regency Maui (where no replacement has yet been hired), has taken over the reigns here. He offers clinics for adults and juniors, round robin mixers, player-matching services, and a monthly themed event for members and hotel guests. Court fees are $24/hour for hotel guests.
