This architecturally stunning 598-room resort hotel was patterned on a breaking wave. All of its rooms, suites, and 19 Arabian-style beachside villas have panorama vistas of the Arabian Gulf. It has six lighted tennis courts, three squash courts, and one half-court basketball court as well as a fitness center, aerobics studio, golf putting green and driving nets, five swimming pools (among them a 25-meter lap pool), a water sports and dive center, a water park, a children's club, and 22 restaurants showcasing a broad range of international cuisine.
An exceptionally experienced crew from Peter Burwash International—headed by regional vice president Rene Zondag and tennis director Jake Gard'ner—oversees the tennis operations. They offer instruction in seven languages year-round, though the peak tennis season occurs from October to May. The weekly roster includes both the standard group and private lessons as well as themed instructional clinics, round robins, men's and ladies' nights, a ladies' clinic, and an extensive junior program with over 200 participants ranging in age from 3 to 16. They also draw on a local membership for those needing opponents.
