Depending on your mood, you can either walk the five minutes from the Hyatt Regency Maui to its tennis facility or request a shuttle. Either way, once you arrive you'll discover an appealingly laid out complex of six hard courts, each individually fenced
with a shaded sitting area just off court beneath a vine-covered trellis. There are views to the north of the West Maui Mountains and to the east of cane fields. Best of all, guests can use these courts for free.
The hotel itself has 806 rooms in three nine-story wings strung along Kaanapali Beach. Its 40-acre footprint encompasses two ocean-view freeform pools, a 150-foot enclosed waterslide, a secret swim-up underwater cave and a grotto bar, and a separate children's activity area with a pool surrounded by sand and a 25-foot slide. There's a spa, of course, this one specializing in traditional lomi lomi and Hawaiian hot stone massages, as well as a fitness center which also schedules tai-chi, Pilates, yoga, and water-aerobics classes. Kids can enroll in the Camp Hyatt program, whose activities include hula dancing and lei making. And there are half a dozen restaurants to choose from on property and scores more elsewhere in Kaanapali or nearby in the famous former whaling port of Lahaina.
